What's Up and What's Not
The purpose of Servers Alive is to provide customers with up to the minute information on the status of University Computing Services systems. This Automated System Check notifies the appropriate System Administrator if any attention is required.
What is a service?
Services include but are not limited to the email server, web server, IMAP server, print servers, backup servers, antivirus server, Meeting Maker server, database servers, instructional servers, fiscal server.
How often is each service being checked?
Each service is checked (pinged) approximately every 10 minutes. If the ping check receives no response from a particular service it will be marked as Down after two no response indications.
What are the possible scenarios for a service to be marked as Down?
A Hardware Failure, Software problem, Scheduled Maintenance (planned or unplanned). During Scheduled Maintenance no system checks are being done to prevent false positives.
